THE Acting Vice Chancellor of University of Ibadan ( UI), Prof. Adebola Ekanola, has vowed to strive in making the institution truly a firstrate university by global standards.

In an appreciation message sent to the Senate members and obtained by The Guardian, Ekanola thanked them for the confidence reposed in him.

The Senate of the university had on Monday selected Ekanola as acting VC for six months.

The selection was ratified by the Pro- Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, Nde Joshua Waklek.

“I lack the right words to say thank you for the confidence you have reposed in me by electing me as Acting Vice Chancellor of our beloved university. By the grace of God and our collective efforts, we will restore the goodwill and harmony that have been ruptured in recent times and complete the process of appointing a substantive vice chancellor.

“I plead that we all do our best to focus more on the best interest of the University of Ibadan, which is our common heritage, and strive to make it truly a first- rate university by global standards.

“Indeed, I am humbled by this privilege and I solemnly undertake to give my best in the service of our university.

“May the good Lord bless you all and the blessings of the Most High God be upon the University of Ibadan.”

Before his appointment, Prof. Ekanola had served as Deputy Vice Chancellor ( Academic), Dean, Faculty of Arts and Director, Office of International Programmes ( OIP), among other appointments.
