DEVELOPMENT Bank of Nigeria ( DBN) has disclosed that it will join the world to amplify the voice of women, canvass gender equality and the rights of women in Nigeria and globally by organising an event to celebrate this year’s International Women’s Day ( IWD).

The event, which will be held on March 8, 2021, would reveal the socio- economic, cultural, and political achievements of women in different sectors and in line with this year’s theme: Choose to Challenge, participants would dwell on gender parity and the difference individuals could make in making the world a better place.

To this end, accomplished women professionals across various spheres of human callings like Head, Brand and Marketing of Sub- Saharan Africa Google, Mojolaoluwa Aderemi Makinde, Chief Eceutive Officer ( CEO) of L & N Kitchen and Interiors, Layla Othman, Nkem Okocha, CEO, South Bridge, Andrew Alli, founder of WISCAR, Amina Oyagbola and MD/ CEO of Mainone, Funke Okpeke, as Keynote Speakers, would share their experience and the challenges they faced on their way to success.

Topics to be discussed extensively are: The Cost of Exclusion, Challenging Gender Stereotypes and Promoting Inclusive Growth, Inclusivity of Women, Gaining Grounds or Whitewashing, Taking a Precursory Look at Gender Politics in the Workplace and Society,” among others.

IWD is a global event in which the socio- economic, cultural and political achievements of women are celebrated yearly and marks a call to action for accelerating gender equality. It is usually celebrated worldwide with groups coming together to recognise and celebrate women’s achievements and their resilience.

In its bid to ensure compliance with the Nigerian Sustainable Banking Principles, which also aligns with the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals ( SDGS), the DBN, established by the Federal Government in collaboration with global development partners to address challenges facing Micro, Small and Medium Scale Enterprises ( MSMES) in Nigeria, has restated its commitment to continue to support gender equality and women empowerment.
