Lawmaker seeks intervention to revamp public primary education

- By Jesutomi Akomolafe

PUBLIC- SPIRITED individuals and non- governmental organisations have been urged to contribute their quota to revamp public primary education in the country to create a better society.

The call was made by the lawmaker representing Oshodi/ Isolo Federal Constituency II, Ganiyu Johnson, during the donation of learning aids to three primary schools in the constituency. He noted that education is the bedrock of development of any nation, which is why it cannot be left alone for government.

The schools, which were equipped with learning aids include Imakiyo Primary School, Ejigbo; Farounbi Primary School, and Akinbaye Primary School, Isolo.

Among items donated are modern classrooms, computers, furniture, office equipment, office cabinets, textbooks and big notes to relieve students and teachers from carrying their seats from home, which is the regular practice after school.

The lawmaker, who was represented by his wife, said: “We went round the schools and found out that most of the students were either standing or sitting on the floor, or on ramshackle seats. This informed my decision to facilitate these materials.

“We have built classroom blocks in Isolo and that of Ejigbo is at 70 per cent completion. This will provide a conducive learning environment for our students.”

Johnson noted that the gesture would complement the efforts of Babajide SanwoOlu- administration in revamping education in Lagos.
