Uncertainty 0ver Fuel Price: Buhari Has Lost Control, HURIWA Says

- From Segun Olaniyi, Abuja

THE Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria ( HURIWA) has condemned the climate of apprehension, anxiety and uncertainty over the pump price of Premium Motor Spirit ( PMS) in the country. In a statement signed by its National Coordinator, Comrade Emmanuel Onwubiko and the National Media Affairs Director, Miss Zainab Yusuf, HURIWA said the uncertainty over the price of PMS suggests that the Federal Government lacks quality economic policy framers/ advisers.

The rights group stated that it was inconceivable that the petroleum sector that President Muhammadu Buhari supervises could not provide clarity and certainty regarding the pump price of petrol.

It noted that it was regrettable that at a time most countries were introducing innovative replacements for petrol and diesel to protect the environment, Nigeria still operates with the mindset of the 18th century because of the gross incompetence of the political class.

THENational Health Insurance Scheme ( NHIS) is to play an important role in the wider national effort to rebuild healthcare infrastructure in the Northeast region.

Executive Secretary of NHIS, Prof. Mohammed N. Sambo, dropped this hint in Abuja when a delegation from the Borno State Government paid him courtesy visit, recently.

Sambo, according to a press statement signed by Head, Media and Public Relations, NHIS, Emmanuel

Ononokpono, noted the importance of putting in place an effective healthcare financing system, stressing that development is unbalanced without infrastructure to support critical services, including healthcare.

Sambo stated that the process of accrediting healthcare facilities in Borno State by the scheme had began in earnest, affirming that the exercise would be fast- tracked and special consideration accorded the state against the backdrop of the security challenges it is currently experiencing. He said the Scheme’s intervention, through its various service platforms, would improve the health indices in the region, adding that its state offices across the country were being strengthened with skilled and relevant personnel and infrastructure to address identified shortcomings in the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory ( FCT).
