The state government, while confirming the incident, said troops were on the trail of the bandits.

A statement by the Commission­er for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Mr. Samuel Aruwan, said the bandits killed 13, injure seven in Zangon Kataf, Kauru and Chikun councils.

He added that during the invasion of the communitie­s, 56 houses and 16 motorcycle­s were razed in Kauru council, with 13 people killed and seven others injured in a series of attacks across communitie­s in Zangon Kataf, Kauru and Chikun councils, as reported to the state government by the military, under the auspices of Operation Safe Haven ( OPSH).

Aruwan said according to the security report, “armed bandits attacked one Irmiya Godwin and his brother as they returned from their farm in Gora Gan village of Zangon Kataf Council. Irmiya Godwin was killed, while his brother escaped.”

“In another incident, armed bandits attacked Kizachi village of Kauru Council and killed 10 persons, leaving four others injured, with 56 houses and 16 motorcycle­s were razed and several barns also raid - ed and burnt.”

Aruwan further stated that during the attack on Masaka village in Chikun council, one person was killed and two others injured, while troops mobilised to the location and eventually repel the attack.
