Sunday Dare... All Hail Agba Akin Of Ogbomosho

-

IT was all pump and pageantry last Thursday, March 11 in the ancient city of Ogbomosho in Oyo State, as Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Mr. Sunday Dare, was installed as the Agbaakin of Ogbomosho by the Soun of Ogbomosho, Oba Jimoh Oyedunni Oyewumi Ajagungbade 111.

Indeed, on that day, endless blessings flowed, as the town was agog with activities incomparable to anything that had been seen in the state, as mouths were left agape by the display of wealth, opulence and taste.

The honour is in recognition of Dare’s giant strides in the development of Ogbomosho and the country at large, which has seen him renovate the Soun Stadium, trained 40 coaches, facilitate the building of a hospital at Pakiotan and release of takeoff grant for the Federal Polytechnic, Ayede, donation of an 18- seater bus to the newly- established federal institution, vocational training of over 200 youths, rehabilitation of Taki roundabout, donation of laptops to Ladoke Akintola University of Technology ( LAUTECH), among others.

The title was actually bestowed on the minister on November 20, last year, but the official coronation was delayed due to Dare’s busy schedule. Speaking at the ceremony, the monarch said the title of Agbaakin is one of the highest conferred on any courageous, hardworking, dedicated and prominent sons of Ogbomosho that has done a lot in the development of our town.

“The title of Agbaakin is one of the highest title conferred on any courageous, hardworking, dedicated and prominent son of Ogbomosho that has done a lot to the development of our town. The important role of Dare in Ogbomosho and Nigeria in general, cannot be undermined.

“His giant strides in youth empowerment, provision of infrastructure, sports development cannot be over- emphasised. He is a true son of the soil and a worthy Nigerian in whom we are all pleased.

“I hereby confer this title on you for your outstanding performance.”

Dare, in his response, said he was humbled by the title, assuring that it would spur him to do more.

Meanwhile, members of the Ogbomosho Descendants Development Association ( ODDA), while congratulating the minister, in a statement by its Chairman, Air Commodore Jacob Adigun ( rtd), said: “On behalf of all Ogbomosho Descendants home and abroad, we congratulate our minister on this well- deserved honour. “We believe this would encourage you to serve our great town, Oyo State and Nigeria better.”
