Stop junketing, face work, security experts tell service chiefs

THE nation’s service chiefs have been advised to halt their ‘ needless’ national tours and diligently tackle the insecurity in the land. Reminding them that eight weeks were enough to make a difference, security experts, yesterday, challenged the military chiefs to leave the comfort of Abuja and relocate to the North East, particularly Maiduguri – the epicentre.

Speaking under the aegis of Coalition of Concerned Nigeria Security Experts, the disturbed citizens said what was expected of the new security heads was to hit the ground running by relocating to the theatre of the war against terrorists for at least six months in the first instance and not national tours.

In a statement issued by the National Coordinator and National Secretary, Prof. Otedola Adekunle and Dr. Chris Aklo, the group tasked the security heads to live up to their responsibility, recalling that it has been close to three months since President Muhammadu Buhari brought them on board.

At the risk of being tagged impatient persons, the professionals vowed not to be deterred from telling the truth.

The coalition observed: “Since the most- anticipated appointment of the new service chiefs on January 26,2021, we expected that by now there would be at least a gradual turnaround in the security of the country, but it’s sad that the situation keeps deteriorating on a daily basis with new dimensions to it.

“While some unpatriotic people may be thinking that it might be too early to speak about the new service chiefs and the current state of insecurity, as security experts, we owe this country the duty to speak out when things are getting out of hand in the security sector where we are experts.”
