The Feast Of Jesus Passover

- By J. A. Shodeinde

LITERALLY, Passover would mean something skipping over a person, but it carries a weightier biblical connotation. The Israelites had lived at the mercy of the Egyptian taskmasters, who had afflicted them cruelly for over 400 years. However, their cries soared into the heavens and God was moved with compassion and avenged for them. God commanded our father Moses to instruct the Israelites to smear their lintel with the blood of a lamb.

It was a day to be much observed, a day of memorial. It was characterised by great wailing in Egypt, for the angel of the Lord swept through the land and smote every firstborn of the Egyptians, even to their animals. But wherever he saw the blood on the doorpost of the Israelites, he passed over them without causing any harm. The irreparable loss witnessed by the Egyptians led to their freedom from King Pharaoh. Henceforth, the Israelites began to celebrate Passover as a divine commandment from God for their great deliverance. ( Exodus 12: 24- 25) ( Numbers 9: 1- 5)

As the Lord spoke to Moses, so He instructed His anointed in the tabernacle of our time to institute Passover in Zion. Passover is very much different from a retreat or convention. Passover is powered by divine arrangement of the Almighty. The feast of Passover was incomplete without the sacrifice of blood, for it was recorded that the Israelites killed a lamb each to appease God. However, our Passover today is established on the blood of our Lord Jesus Christ, Who paid it all for us at Calvary and on the cross with deep sorrow and pain. He gladly endured it all for us. So, the key essence of our Passover is that it is the celebration of the blood of our Lord Jesus Christ. ( Matthew 26: 26- 28) We have to purge ourselves of our sins and everything unclean by dipping ourselves into the blood of Jesus Christ, Who is our Passover, for He has already paid all our debts at the cross.
