THE Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, Monday Bala Kuryas, yesterday, led a team of operatives to Isuofia Civic Centre in Aguata Council for an on- thespot assessment of the attack on former Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria ( CBN), Prof. Chukwuma Soludo.

The frontline All Progressives Grand Alliance ( APGA) aspirant in the November 6 governorship election in the state was harassed by yet- to- be identified hoodlums during a stakeholders’ meeting where three policemen were killed on Wednesday evening.

In a statement by its spokesman, DSP Ikenga Tochukwu, the force said one person had been arrested in connection with the incident, adding that the thugs abducted the Commissioner for Public and Utilities, Emeka Ezenwanne.

His words: “The assailants were resisted by security operatives present at the event, and in the ensuing gun duel, three officers sustained severe gunshot injuries and were later confirmed dead in the hospital, while their corpses have been deposited in the mortuary.

“The police operatives, led by the command’s CP, visited the scene and the former CBN governor to reinforce the security in his house and the entire community.

“In his response, he thanked the commissioner and his team for the quick response.” Condemning the violence, the police chief ordered an immediate discreet investigation into the attack with a view to bringing the perpetrators to justice. He implored the people to cooperate with security agencies in fighting criminality in the state.

BESIDES, the Deputy Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, Toby Okechukwu, lamented the assassination plot.

The lawmaker, who represents Aninri/ Awgu/ Oji River Federal Constituency of Enugu State, warned that the country was neck- deep in a season of anomie that spells doom if not urgently redressed.

ALSO, the Speaker of Anambra State House of Assembly, Uche Victor Okafor, described the act as “inhumane, uncouth and appalling, especially in these trying times.” He charged security operatives to fish out the masterminds.

REACTING, the Anambra Civil Society Network ( ACSONET) said the attempt was “scary and absolutely unacceptable.”

Its Chairman, Prince Chris Azor, noted that the incident was one of the “envisaged early warning signs precursory to the vital election.”

ALSO speaking, the national leadership of APGA stated that all hands must be on deck to unravel the situation.

The National Chairman, Chief Edozie Njoku, told The Guardian that the party would address stakeholders soon.
