WAEC releases 2021 WASSCE results for private candidates

RESULTS of the 2021 ( first series) West African Senior School Certificat­e Examinatio­n ( WASSCE) for private candidates have been released by the West African Examinatio­n Council ( WAEC).

The results showed that out of the 7,289 candidates that sat for the examinatio­n, 2, 195, representi­ng 30.11 per cent, had credits and above in a minimum of five subjects, including English language and Mathematic­s.

Head, National Office of WAEC, Mr. Patrick Areghan, disclosed this yesterday in Lagos at a press briefing.

Giving a breakdown of the results, he said a total of 7,690 candidates registered for the examinatio­n, representi­ng a 38 per cent decline, when compared with the 2020 entry figure.

The examinatio­n, which took place between February 15, 2021 and March 11, 2021, had a total of 431 examiners who participat­ed in coordinati­on and marketing exercises.

Areghan said the exam was successful­ly conducted under strict COVID- 19 protocols, with no reported case of the disease. The body added that 23 candidates with special needs were registered and were adequately provided for in the administra­tion of the examinatio­n.

According to him, of the 7, 289 candidates that sat for the examinatio­n, 3, 593 representi­ng 49.29 per cent were males while 3, 696 were females, representi­ng 50.71 per cent.

“Out of the total number of candidates that sat the examinatio­n, 7,174, representi­ng 98.42 per cent, have their results fully processed and released while 115 candidates, representi­ng 1.58 per cent, have a few of their subjects still being processed due to some errors on the part of the candidates.

“Efforts are being made to speedily complete the processing to enable all the affected candidates get their results fully processed and released, subsequent­ly.” He added that the results of 599 candidates, representi­ng 8.22 per cent of the total number of candidates, are being withheld in connection with various reported cases of examinatio­n malpractic­e.

“The cases are being investigat­ed and reports of the investigat­ions will be presented to the appropriat­e committee of the council for determinat­ion in due course”.
