WAEC releases 2021 WASSCE results for private candidates
RESULTS of the 2021 ( first series) West African Senior School Certificate Examination ( WASSCE) for private candidates have been released by the West African Examination Council ( WAEC).
The results showed that out of the 7,289 candidates that sat for the examination, 2, 195, representing 30.11 per cent, had credits and above in a minimum of five subjects, including English language and Mathematics.
Head, National Office of WAEC, Mr. Patrick Areghan, disclosed this yesterday in Lagos at a press briefing.
Giving a breakdown of the results, he said a total of 7,690 candidates registered for the examination, representing a 38 per cent decline, when compared with the 2020 entry figure.
The examination, which took place between February 15, 2021 and March 11, 2021, had a total of 431 examiners who participated in coordination and marketing exercises.
Areghan said the exam was successfully conducted under strict COVID- 19 protocols, with no reported case of the disease. The body added that 23 candidates with special needs were registered and were adequately provided for in the administration of the examination.
According to him, of the 7, 289 candidates that sat for the examination, 3, 593 representing 49.29 per cent were males while 3, 696 were females, representing 50.71 per cent.
“Out of the total number of candidates that sat the examination, 7,174, representing 98.42 per cent, have their results fully processed and released while 115 candidates, representing 1.58 per cent, have a few of their subjects still being processed due to some errors on the part of the candidates.
“Efforts are being made to speedily complete the processing to enable all the affected candidates get their results fully processed and released, subsequently.” He added that the results of 599 candidates, representing 8.22 per cent of the total number of candidates, are being withheld in connection with various reported cases of examination malpractice.
“The cases are being investigated and reports of the investigations will be presented to the appropriate committee of the council for determination in due course”.
