MASSOB accuses FG of sponsoring attacks in Igboland
HURIWA warns against militarisation of S’east
MOVEMENT for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra ( MASSOB) has accused the Federal Government of sponsoring attacks in Igboland.
Condemning the incessant attacks and security deterioration in the South East region, the pro- Biafra group said it was still at a loss how government facilities, security agents and some prominent individuals became targets of the attackers without response from the Federal Government.
It cited attacks on former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria ( CBN), Chukwuma Soludo, and Ebonyi State indigenes, accusing the Federal Government of attempting to militarise the South East.
MASSOB also said the current mayhem in the zone was to intimidate the people and frustrate Ndigbo from clamouring for presidency in 2023.
It insisted through a statement by its leader, Uchenna Madu, that the attacks were sponsored and executed by the Federal Government through its protected militiamen called “bandits and unknown gunmen,” to discredit the non- violent proBiafra freedom fighters.
“They want to create an erroneous impression that pro- Biafra agitators have turned violent. Otherwise, how can amateur fighters with no military training overpower the entire security apparatus of Nigeria in the South East? Why was there no security resistance during the breaking of Owerri prisons and Imo State police headquarters in an operation that lasted more than one hour?
“Nigerian military cantonment, Obinze Owerri is seven minutes drive to the scene of the crime; Imo State MOPOL base is three minutes drive to the scene of the crime, but there was no resistance from these security agencies,” he wondered.
IN the same vein, the Human Rights Writers Association ( HURIWA) has warned the authorities against militarisation of the South East region, in the guise of chasing members of the Indigenous People of Biafra ( IPOB).
HURIWA, led by Emmanuel Onwubiko, also faulted the hasty manner the Nigeria Police Force ( NPF) blamed IPOB for the attack on the Owerri correctional facility where over 1,800 inmates were set free.
The rights activist, told reporters in Abuja, yesterday, that the decision by the police to blame IPOB for the attacks was part of the grand design to unleash soldiers on the South East to kill and maim innocent persons.
He maintained that the police authorities did not conduct a thorough probe to unearth those behind the attack on the correctional facility before arriving at the conclusion that it was masterminded by IPOB.
The association called on the international community to wade in to stop what it termed “the Rwanda type genocide” that may occur.
It added: “We will show you that there is more to it than meets the eyes when analytically observing the statements of persons who said they speak for Mr. President – the same person who defends Miyetti Allah vigorously each time people are killed in Benue or Southern Kaduna, even when the survivors say they heard their attackers speak Fulfulde.”
