Edo vaccinates 33, 000 persons as COVID- 19 active cases drop
• Obaseki assures of training over 15, 000 software engineers, others • First lady seeks more role for women in governance
EDO State Government has intensified its COVID19 vaccination campaign across the state’s 18 councils, disclosing that it has vaccinated 33,108 persons with the Oxford- Astrazeneca vaccine.
Executive Secretary of the state Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Dr. Julie Erhabor, disclosed this at the daily virtual meeting of the State COVID- 19 Task Force, presided over by Governor Godwin Obaseki. Erhabor said the 33,108 persons who have taken the jabs, represent 82 per cent of the state’s 40, 540 target population for the exercise, reassuring that the government has stepped up efforts at ensuring that all eligible members of the public were vaccinated.
She disclosed that those vaccinated include 9, 987 strategic leaders, 7, 400 health workers and 15, 821 other frontline workers across the state.
Incident Manager of the State COVID- 19 Task Force, Dr. Andrew Obi, noted that measures deployed to flatten the curve of the second wave of the pandemic had continued to yield positive outcome, as active cases have dropped to one with a steady decline in case positivity and fatality rates. B ESIDES, Governor Obaseki, yesterday, reaffirmed that his government will train no fewer than 15,000 software engineers and programmers as well as other technology talents in a bid to reposition the state as Africa’s software engineering hub.
He said the move was part of efforts to build the next generation of technology leaders and empower Edo youths to tap into the growing demand for tech talent globally, adding that the state was ready for digital transformation in e- commerce, as the government had put in place infrastructure and systems to achieve a globally competitive digital economy enabled by technology.
