Nwosu slams EFCC over face- off with Kogi govt

ALLIED Political Parties for Good Governance and Building Nigeria Legacy has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to caution the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission ( EFCC) for alleged political witchhunt.

It accused EFCC of politicising the anti- graft war and allowing itself to be used to intimidate perceived opponents of the All Progressives Congress ( APC).

The National Chairman of African Democratic Congress ( ADC), Chief Ralph Nwosu, in a statement, yesterday, on behalf of the group, stressed the need for Buhari to call the leadership of the anti- graft agency to order.

The statement was the outcome of a press briefing in Awka, Anambra State, yesterday.

Reacting to the recent faceoff between the Kogi State and the EFCC over a controversial N20 billion salary bailout account at a new generation bank that was purportedly frozen by the court, he accused the commission of allowing itself to be used by the APC to label some politicians as corrupt through unverified cases.

According to him, the account was frozen by the court following an ex parte application by the EFCC, pending the conclusion of the investigation or possible prosecution.

He said: “Last week, the biggest topic in the news was the face- off between the government of Kogi and the EFCC. The pile of documents presented by the Kogi government and the bank in this instance shows that the EFCC is chasing an agenda.

“Corruption investigation must be ethical. I urge the EFCC to focus on its job, stay away from politics and politicians, intensify efforts at ridding the country of corruption and work for the good of everybody.”

The commission, he added, should carry out investigation without any prejudice on one side or the other, follow the evidence and take action where it is justified.
