Aggrieved parties agreed to withdraw court cases, Mark tells governors

GOVERNORS of the Peoples Democratic Party ( PDP) have insisted that the October 30 national convention must hold to elect new officers of the party.

The 92nd meeting of the National Executive Committee ( NEC) of the party, which held two weeks ago, had ordered the leadership of the party to begin preparations for the October national convention.

But forces loyal to the suspended national chairman of the PDP, Uche Secondus had raised issues against the convention because of their belief that the convention would shorten Secondus’ tenure, which lapses December 9, 2021.

At a marathon meeting in Abuja last night, the PDP governors invited and received briefings from other caucuses and organs of the party concerning the appointment of the convention planning committee as well as the zoning committee. M

EANWHILE, the Senator David Mark- led peace committee has informed the governors that all parties to the PDP crisis have agreed to withdraw cases from courts.

A source close to the meeting disclosed that the governors used the opportunity of Mark’s presentation to insist that all aggrieved members must be persuaded to drop court cases in the interest of strengthening the party particularly ahead of the 2023 General elections.

The meeting, it was further learnt agreed to present all harmonised issues to the 93rd meeting of NEC which holds at the PDP national secretariat today.

The key issues said to have been resolved at the meeting included the composition of the convention planning committee and the zoning committee.

The last NEC meeting had asked organs and caucuses of the party to nominate persons for appointment into those committees.

Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, who addressed journalists at 10: 25 p. m. when the meeting ended after seven hours, said the NEC would officially announce resolutions taken.

The governors said they received briefings on the Anambra governorship campaign, adding that the party would put measures in place to ensure victory for the party.
