Bello joins board of Global Media Campaign, UK

-

THE Global Media Campaign ( GMC) has appointed grassroots advocacy expert and survivor, Ayodeji Bello, as a board member.

GMC is an international organisation in the United Kingdom ( UK), committed to supporting and funding frontline grassroots activists across Africa.

Bello will represent the youths and adolescents of Africa on the board.

The group said Ayodeji’s proven track record of consistency and resilience is what is needed to drive the organisation to achieve Sustainable Development Goal 5 by 2030.

Ayodeji attended GMC Activist training in 2016 and climbed the ladder of leadership to attain a Triple A Activist and country representative to Nigeria.

She began her campaign against harmful social and cultural practices affecting the sexual and reproductive health and rights of women and girls in Ile Ife, Osun State, while she was studying for her degree in Sociology and Anthropology at Obafemi Awolowo University.

Her passion to drastically reduce the practice of harmful traditions spurred her to create Initiative for Girls’ Rights and Health Development ( IGRHD), a community- based NGO using media campaigns, education, arts, sensitisation projects, counselling and social support for survivors to crusade positive behavioral change in rural communities.

Ayodeji is a fellow of former President Obama’s Young Leaders Initiative - YALI, a 120 under 40 nominee by Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and delegate to the World Youth Forum by President Abdul Fata El- Sisi of Egypt.

Ayo has represented Nigeria at global events in Ghana, Egypt, Kenya and India, among others.
