Henthe saying ‘ life begins at 40’ was popularised in 1932 by an American author, Walter B. Pitkin, it was taken for its face value to mean that when one reaches that age, life becomes better, maybe because one has the skills, experiences and means necessary for a more enjoyable life.

That may be true, but for Emeka Igbonekwu, it transcends that mundane interpretation to include finding one’s purpose in life and fulfilling it with the help of God Almighty. That is why, at 40, the Enugu State- born gospel music artiste expresses satisfaction that he has seen the hand of God in his 40- year journey on earth.

Popularly called Emeka DMD, he told The

Guardian that at 40, he had no regrets, but that he had made some mistakes in life, through which he had learnt some vital lessons.

Asked what impact he would like to make in life as he journeys towards 50, he said: “I will like to give scholarships and build houses for the less privileged. And of course, I know that God will definitely increase my financial capacity to be able to do that.”

Emeka DMD, who has several Igbo gospel music albums to he credit, said his singing style was influenced by the Assemblies of God Church choir, where he started to sing and play the drums, as a teenager.

He admonished the youths to serve God and Jesus Christ, saying: “Honestly, I speak from experience. Years back in Church what other people collect money to do I do for free and today, I am seeing the results on all sides.

“I love working for God and presently I am single handedly building a Church in my village, even when I have not built my own house. For me, it’s God’s work first and He will work for me.

“Some people were like your mates are building their own houses and you are building a Church, and I told them not to worry that I am building my own alter that will speak for my generation. For me, it’s my dear God first.”

Born in September 1981, Emeka DMD eyes a very bright future with commitment, determination and focus on God’s divine plans and purpose for his life, as he inches towards the golden era! Happy birthday!
