Imo police recover abandoned three- year- old girl in church

Declare 16 - year- old- female missing

OPERATIVES of Imo State Police Command have recovered a three- year- old baby with hearing and speaking impairment who was abandoned in a church.

The Command’s spokespers­on, Michael Abattam, in a statement, yesterday, said the child was abandoned by an unknown person in the premises of St. Mulumba Catholic Church, Wetheral Road, Owerri, adding that the situation was worsened by the inability of the child to hear or talk.

The statement said efforts made to trace the parents of the child have proved abortive.

The statement reads: “The Imo State Police Command wishes to inform the general public of an abandoned female child name unknown, about 3- year - old and fair in complexion.

“The baby girl, who has speaking and hearing difficulty was found abandoned in the premises of St. Mulumba Catholic Church, Wetheral Road, Owerri at about 0730 hrs of January 1 and all efforts to trace the parents proved abortive.

“Members of the public who may know the child or parents are advised by this press release to come to the office of the Police Public Relations Office, Police headquarte­rs, Owerri, or call the Police Public Relations Office, on 0808303192­3 for identifica­tion and collection please.”

IN another developmen­t, the police Command has declared missing one Chinechere­m Ukwuoma, 16.

Abattam, in a statement, said the female teen, who hails from Nkume, Njaba Local Council of Imo State, is about 4.5 feet tall and speaks English and Pidgin, adding that she left the house of her guardian, Mrs. Nwobi, at 2, Ajero Street, World Bank, Owerri, about 0958 hours, on December 15, 2021, but was yet to return.
