Sit up or you have your contract terminated, works commissioner warns

- From Inemesit Akpan- Nsoh Uyo

AKWA Ibom State government has frowned on the slow pace of work on the 23.25km Ikot Ekaide- Ikot Okoro- Ikot Ibritam road in OrukAnam council handled by Total Advance Engineering Services Limited.

Consequently, the Commissioner for Works and Fire Service, Prof. Eno Ibanga, has sternly warned the contractor to sit up as the government will not hesitate to terminate the contract.

The Commissioner who issued out the warning yesterday after meeting with the contractor handling the road project, said government has released huge sum of money that would have taken the work done beyond where it was now.

He particularly expressed disatisfaction at the snail space on the Ikot Okoro axis of the project, disclosing that, government had released enough funds that would have aided the project’s completion to the contractor, but the extent of work done has not matched the funds released.

While asking the company’s representative to map out strategies for the delivery of the project on or before May 2022, the works commissioner further explained the significant of the road project to the state government, urging the contractor to leave up to expectation to avoid termination of the contract.

Earlier, the permanent secretary Engr. John Itia and the Director, Civil Engineering Akaninyene Henry, urged the contractor to take advantage of the dry season and redouble efforts in order to ensure timely delivery of the road project.

Responding to questions, the General manager of the company Engr. Elias Nayef attributed the challenges faced by his company to rainfall.
