Margery Okadigbo Starts Reign At NNPC Board
CHAIRMAN of the newly inaugurated Board of Nigeria’s National Petroleum Company Limited ( NNPC), Mrs. Margery Okadigbo, has kicked off her reign with optimism, projecting her tenure to be marked with success in achieving its objectives.
Okadigbo replaces Senator Ifeanyi Ararume, who was dropped by the President as the board’s Chairman very early into the year.
Okadigbo, who earlier in the week gave her ‘ vote of confidence,’ after the board’s inauguration by President Muhammadu Buhari, said Nigerian women deserve the appointments into sensitive leadership positions in the country.
She said, “I feel wonderful and I guess I speak on behalf of everybody on the Board. It’s a historic moment and it is something that Nigerians have been looking forward to for a very long time.
“Every woman has a big role in raising a child and this new NNPC is like a new child and we want to grow it, mature it and we intend to take it to the international platform.
“Indeed, it is a herculean task but you can see I am flanked on this Board by abled men and women and we will deliver. We will ensure transparency, integrity and loyalty to the nation Nigeria because we deserve to grow this company.
“The Nigerian women are very happy. We have gotten a lot of congratulations because they are excited and all this is thanks to the President for remembering the Nigerian women, we thank him.”
Recall that, last September, Buhari wrote to the Senate on the administrative structure amendments to the Petroleum Industry Act, which included the appointment of Non- Executive Board Members, removal of the Ministries of Petroleum and Finance from the Board of the two new institutions, and appointment of Executive Directors.
