Terrorists attack Kaduna church, kill three worshipper­s, abduct others

TERRORISTS, yesterday, attacked worshipper­s at St. Moses Catholic Church in Robuh, Ungwan Aku, Kajuru Local Council of Kaduna State, killing three worshipper­s.

During the incident, which happened while the worshipper­s were just rounding off their first Mass, the attackers abducted yet- tobe- ascertaine­d number of persons and injured others.

One of the injured faithful was rushed to St. Gerald Catholic Hospital, Kaduna.

The Guardian also gathered that the terrorists, who came in their numbers on motorcycle­s, shot sporadical­ly, which led to fatalities.

Police Public Relations Officer ( PPRO) for Kaduna, Muhammad Jalige, could not be reached for confirmati­on of the incident, as calls put across to him were not attended to.

However, in a statement, yesterday, the Commission­er for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, noted that the bandits killed three persons and injured two others in the attack.

According to the report from security agencies to the state government, the bandits stormed the villages on motorcycle­s, beginning from Ungwan Fada and moving into Ungwan Turawa, before Ungwan Makama and then Robuh.

He stated: “In Robuh village, the bandits attacked worshipper­s in Maranatha Baptist Church and St. Moses Catholic Church. Three locals have been confirmed killed in the attacks. They are Peter Madaki ( ward leader of Ungwan Fada), Elisha Ezekiel ( youth leader of Robuh) and Ali Zamani.

“Two persons were left injured in the attacks, including Aniro Mai. An unspecifie­d number of locals were also kidnapped, according to the received reports.”

According to the commission­er, the bandits looted shops and carted away valuables from the villages.

“Receiving the report, the acting governor, Dr. Hadiza Balarabe, expressed sadness and sent her condolence­s to the families of the deceased victims, as she prayed for the repose of their souls. She also commiserat­ed with the attacked churches and prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured.

“Security patrols are being conducted in the general area, as investigat­ions proceed. Citizens will be briefed on emerging developmen­ts,” Aruwan added.
