- By Isaac Taiwo

SHARON Olusegun, a 16year- old Senior Secondary School ( SSS 3) student of Trophy Guide Private School, Igando, Lagos, has emerged overall winner of the maiden online and offline SSS essay competition organised by Michael Ojo Education Movement in Lagos.

Amana Hephzibah, an 11- yearold Junior Secondary School ( JSS1) student of Abifid Montessori School, Egan, Lagos, came first in the junior category.

Olusegun, who was named MKO Brand Ambassador at the event, was rewarded with an award of excellence, N50, 000 education support fund and educational materials.

According to the convener, the movement was set up to right the wrongs in education, encourage learners, back basic education and promote quality education.

Ojo said: “We celebrate education and make sure that no student sits at home; we also ensure that every child goes to school as we believe that if the foundation is alright, building on it would be very easy.

“After the first year of inauguration, we went to some areas in Ogun State and were surprised at the deterioration in the sector. We then thought of how to encourage learners by organising this essay competition in phases,” he said.

Ojo said six schools physically participated in the competition, while those that took part in online competition were not known, adding that two other schools that were there at the ceremony were the ones that had benefitted from the movement, such as Solid Anchorage school, a missionary school they have been partnering with through payment of its teachers

He said other schools in Ogun State have benefitted from the foundation through provision of educational materials.

Olusegun, in her remarks, said though the competition was impromptu, God helped him to emerge winner.
