Police arrest officer for culpable homicide in Benue

TMERRORIST­S have kidnapped a Divisional Police Officer ( DPO) in Birnin- Gwari, Kaduna State.

The Guardian learnt that the incident occurred, yesterday, along Kaduna- Birnin Gwari highway.

The DPO, who was recently posted to the area, was reported to be on his way to BirninGwar­i to report at his duty post when he was abducted.

When contacted, Police Public Relations Officer ( PPRO), DSP Mohammed Jalige, said he would inquire and revert. EANWHILE, Benue State Police Command has arrested Sgt. James Aondona, in connection with a case of culpable homicide in KatsinaAla Local Council of the state.

This is contained in a statement made available to The Guardian, yesterday, signed by the command’s spokespers­on, SP Catherine Anene, in Makurdi.

According to Anene, preliminar­y investigat­ion revealed that on June 26 about 1230hrs, Aondona was properly briefed on his schedule of duty and posted to an observatio­n point at Ngibo in Katsina- Ala.

He decided to engage in an altercatio­n with one Aondohemba Terkula, which claimed the latter’s life.

“The lifeless body has been deposited at the General Hospital in Katsina- Ala.

“The Commission­er of Police, Wale Abass, condemned the unprofessi­onal conduct of the officer involved and ordered that further investigat­ion be carried out,” Anene said.

She further stated that Abass assured Benue citizens and residents that justice would be served, stressing that disciplina­ry procedure had already commenced on the suspect for onward prosecutio­n.
