Vigilante group hands over street robbers in Diobu to police

VIGILANTE group in Diobu, Port Harcourt, Rivers State said its members apprehende­d three men identified as Daniel Asuquo aka Dino, Chidibem and Onyedikach­i who have been tormenting residents of Azikiwe street and its environs. Commander of Diobu Vigilante, Prince Amatari said his men apprehende­d Asuquo at about 8: 30pm after robbing one Mrs Ngozi Onyebuchi of her phone and inflicted serious injury on her.

According to Amatari, the victim, after dropping from a bus under the Fly Over wanted to get something when Daniel and his cohort snatched her phone and took to their heels. He said other suspects were apprehende­d in their hideouts, adding that all suspects have been handed over to the Mile 1 Police Division. Narrating her ordeal, the victim said: “I was coming back from church, at Ada George by Chindah, I strolled down to buy akara, so I dipped my hand inside my pocket to bring out money to pay, I brought out my phone alongside and after paying I put my phone back inside. It was in that process somebody from behind collected the phone from me. When I shouted, the second stab my ear and ran away.

One of the suspects, Daniel said: “My friend and I decided to take a walk this evening because there was nothing in our pockets. So we just said we should just rag the street to see if we can have something. “So we approached the woman, stabbed her and collected the phone from her, and started running before the vigilante caught us. I was the one who could not escape.”

Meanwhile, the commander of the vigilante group assured all residents of Azikiwe including businessme­n and students accessing the University through Azikiwe back gate to go about their lawful business day and night without fear of molestatio­n.
