NIM urges FG, UN to declare Nov. 19 as management day
T HENigerian Institute of Management ( NIM) Chartered has said it is not relenting in its quest in ensuring the actualising of Nov. 19 as the declaration of Management Day by the Federal Government and International Management Day by the United Nations.
The day, the institute said, represents the platform that celebrates the ideals and tenets of the management profession, as well as coin - cides with the birthday of the widely acclaimed founder and father of modern management, Prof. Peter Drucker. Apart from being an opportunity to appreciate the Nigerian manager and the contributions of the insti - tute to the development of the profession and the nation, it said Management Day has been an a venue to diagnose the challenges of management practice and proffer solutions in line with international standards, to achieve management excel - lence.
Acting President and Chairman of Council, NIM, Dr. Christiana Atako , at this year's management day celebration, said it provided the opportunity to address the issues of integrity, accountability, probity, honesty, effi - ciency, effectiveness and dedication to duty which are the most important factors for the growth and efficiency of the Nigerian economy.
She said the institute was convinced that setting aside a day for the celebration of the management profession in Nigeria and the world over was a right step in the right direction.
Noting that approving the day has become necessar y, she expressed the impor - tance of management and the importance of entrenching the ethos of good management, stating how crucial it is in our ever yday lives starting from the home to the workplace and to the larger society.
