Architects seek collaboration for effective service delivery

- By Victor Gbonegun

THE Nigerian Institute of Architects ( NIA) has urged stakeholders in the sector to improve on existing collaboration among operators.

Lagos State Chairman, Mr. David Majekodunmi, gave the charge during his acceptance speech for second term of office at the chapter’s biennial general meeting in Lagos.

He stressed the need for NIA and allied professionals in the built- environment, to be more engaging, exert influence and collaborate with the state government.

The chairman enjoined members of the institute to be more committed through active participation in events and programmes.

“There is even greater obligation on us generally and on me particularly to clearly understand the difficult choices and challenges we face and how we can successfully work our way through them to achieve a greater and more responsive chapter,” he said.

He charged professionals to put up their best and ability to overcome the challenges and improve in them.

Majekodunmi said: “The purpose of each and every change that we make must be to create a society, which is genuine open and meritocratic. A place where each player knows his/ her place and operates within the confines of professional sphere, while complimenting the roles of allied professionals being mindful of not usurping another’s role. We also need to create a country where citizens get the chance to fulfill true potential, rather than a selected few at the top.”

He expressed appreciation to members for the confidence reposed in his leadership, pledging commitments to service and the architecture profession.

On successes recorded, it includes inauguration of a new branch, Lagos architects’ multi- purpose cooperative society, taking front role in assisting state government to domesticate the National Building Code, increase membership strength and number of students admitted into the student’s cadre of membership of the institute.

Presenting his report, the Chair, Admissions, Adeleke Nadi, said the long- term objective of the unit is to encourage graduates in firms within Lagos to register and become members.
