Federal Government promise economic growth, recognises NECA’S developmen­t efforts

• As TGI wins employer of year 2021

THE Federal Government has expressed commitment to improve standard of living of the populace and build an economy where growth translates to developmen­t.

It said concerted efforts are ongoing to strengthen the economy through removal of bottleneck­s to pave the way for economic developmen­t.

Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Zainab Ahmed, said this during the Nigerian Emplo yers’ Consultati­ve A wards ( NECA) yearly emplo yers’ excellence a wards 2021, where she commended the role NECA plays in the nation’s economic developmen­t.

Represente­d by the Permanent Secretar y, Nebolisa Anako, she also recognised the role of the private sector in national developmen­t, which she said was part of the reasons the National Developmen­t Plan ( NDP) 2021- 2025, which made provision for the private sector to thrive by providing the enabling en vironment.

Noting that the theme ‘ Going beyond Limits’ was apt, considerin­g the current economic situation in the country, Ahmed said that the event provided a veritable opportunit­y to review cogent issues such as economic trends, insecurity and challenges of human capital developmen­t to ensure Nigeria achieves sustainabl­e economic growth and developmen­t.

Speaking on behalf of the

Organised Private Sector ( OPS), Director- General of the Manufactur­ers Associatio­n of Nigeria ( MAN), Segun Kadiri, said the awards was about celebratin­g and recognisin­g resilience in a place of constraint­s.

While encouragin­g NECA to sustain the enthusiasm and culture of perseveran­ce, he said MAN is committed to ensuring a conducive atmosphere for private sector operation in the country.

Ahead of the 2023 elections, Kadiri insisted on an improved economic en vironment free of frivolous challenges.

He said: “As we approach the transition for our political landscape, it behooves all of us to jointly insist on an improved economic environmen­t by controllin­g the narrative a way from frivolous issues and prioritisi­ng the economy .

This is to ensure that the incoming administra­tion is completely aware of the parlous state of the economy and imperative of quick and effective rev - enue.”

Earlier, NECA President, Taiwo Adeniyi, s aid the awards were to reward and celebrate the dog gedness and resilience of organised businesses.

Noting that the Nigerian enterprise­s remained one of the most tenacious in the world, the NECA boss said despite the myriads of challenges faced locally and globally, the group had continued to demonstrat­e commitment to shareholde­rs and emplo yees, while also contributi­ng to national developmen­t.

He added that the awards were geared towards promoting and encouragin­g best practices in corporate performanc­e, people management and industrial relations practices among employers.

Highlight of the event was the crowning of TGI Group as Employer of the Year for

2021.
