FG commences revitalisa­tion of River Basin Developmen­t Authoritie­s

• Inaugurate­s water scheme, others in Imo

TFederal Government has commenced the revitalisa­tion of River Basin Developmen­t Authoritie­s ( RBDA), for effective service delivery across the country.

The Minister of Water Resources, Sulieman Adamu, disclosed this in Imo State, during the inaugurati­on of a 500,000- litre per day capacity water scheme to serve about 10, 000 people in Ezealapkak­a, Ehime Mbano Local Council; Agbala integrated Songhai farms, and other projects across the state and its environs. The project, financed by the Federal Government, through the Federal Ministry of Water Resources, intended to uplift the standard of living of the people, will also serve the Agbala integrated Songhai farms among other projects scattered in some parts of the state.

The Minister, who was pleased with the efforts of the Managing Director of the Anambra/ Imo River Basin Developmen­t Authority ( AIRBDA), Gerald O. Osuagwu, said since inception, the present administra­tion under the watch of President Muhammadu Buhari has made significan­t impact in revitalisi­ng and rehabilita­ting the River Basin Developmen­t Authoritie­s across the country.

He said the projects, sited at the headquarte­rs of the agency in Agbala, Owerri North local council, are sustainabl­e legacies that would improve human capital developmen­t.

The Minister said: “The revitalisa­tion of the Agbala integrated Songhai farms will serve as training centre geared towards educating farmers on modern, effective and efficient farming methods that will increase agricultur­al production and ensure food security.” While speaking, the Managing Director of the AIRBDA, Osuagwu, said: “These projects fall in line with the mandate and vision of the authority, which include improving on the lives of the people and communitie­s within its catchment and delivering on the dividends of democracy.” Osuagwu, noted that the facilities were basically built with the intention of “providing jobs, creating wealth; boosting agricultur­e and impacting positively on the lives of the people while also generating revenue for the authority.”

He disclosed that there were other numerous projects in the various parts of the state which would be unfolded soon. Other projects inaugurate­d include – the Basin’s Water Factory and the Palm Oil Processing Mill, among others.
