Firstbank, Lagos govt partner to boost primary healthcare service
AS part of its corporate social responsibility, First Bank of Nigeria, in partnership with the Lagos State government, has commissioned and handed over a primary healthcare centre ( PHC) to Ijedodo community in Ojo Local Government Area, for improved access to quality healthcare services.
At the commissioning, Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo- Olu, restated the state’s commitment to strengthening primary healthcare service by investing more resources in the construction of more facilities to bring healthcare closer to the citizenry, especially at the grassroots.
Chief Executive Officer, Firstbank Group, Dr. Adesola Adeduntan, said the project was one of the many ways of reiterating its commitment and support for the Lagos State Government’s “One Community at a Time ( OCAAT)” initiative, which has continued to gain wide acclaim globally. She said with the modern health centre, more than 2,000 residents of the community would be able to conveniently access quality and timely healthcare.
According to her, the OCAAT initiative which is an integrated, inter- sectoral and community- based programme aimed at achieving sustainable improvements in the lives of people across Lagos State aligns with the tenets of Firstbank’s corporate responsibility and sustainability ( CRS) approach.
While commending First Bank on the gesture, the governor, who was represented by Secretary to the State Government, Folasade Jaji, urged more corporate organisations and individuals to toe the lender’s path by partnering the government in addressing the challenges of the underserved communities.
He said the commissioning was part of programmes for the inauguration of a new administration on May 29. “This facility will go a long way in boosting the healthcare service delivery in this community and also complement our administration’s efforts to provide efficient and accessible healthcare services to all our people,” Jaji said.
