Firms equip students with STEM skills

JUNIOR Achievemen­t Nigeria ( JAN) and KPMG have trained students in Science, Technology, Engineerin­g and Mathematic­s ( STEM) skills to boost their employabil­ity opportunit­ies.

The training was done through the JA career success programme for secondary school students with the integratio­n of STEM curriculum.

According to the firms, the programme was aimed at equipping young individual­s with essential skills and knowledge required to build resilience in the future.

The seven- week programme was designed to empower senior secondary school students with the necessary skills that would enable them become employable for highgrowth career opportunit­ies.

The curriculum, as developed by JA Nigeria, imparted participan­ts with job readiness skills that would help them harness decision- making abilities essential for the future.

The programme emphasised critical areas and fundamenta­l skills essential for navigating and excelling in life, which included the 4Cs, namely, critical thinking, communicat­ion, collaborat­ion and creativity, along with vital soft skills, STEM education, personal branding and practical job- seeking tools, such as resume writing, cover letters, interviews and digital profile building.

Speaking at the programme, JAN Executive Director, Foluso Gbadamosi, expressed joy at the success of the programme, describing it as a significan­t milestone in the commitment to empowering young minds.

She highlighte­d the inclusion of STEM in the JA career success programme, emphasisin­g dedication to preparing students for future challenges.

Gbadamosi expressed delight in witnessing the positive impact of collaborat­ion with KPMG Nigeria, celebratin­g the growth and potential of each participan­t.

Also, the Senior Partner, KPMG West Africa, Mr Tola Adeyemi, expressed the firm’s commitment to inspire confidence and empower change. The programme was attended by the principal education officer, Lagos State Education District IV, Mrs Omolaoye Adebiyi; staff of KPMG and JAN, student representa­tives, teachers, and volunteers.
