• 2023 - Nigeria
Lagos and Kano topped list of Independent National Electoral Commission voters register. Lagos was top with 7,060,195 voters followed by Kano 5,921,370. INEC registered 93.4 million voters for 2023 polls. A further breakdown indicated men constitute 52.5% women make up 47.5 %.
• 2022 - Nigeria
Former interim Head of State, Chief Ernest Shonekan died. He ruled Nigeria during a brief stint between Aug 26 1993 and Nov 17 1993. Shonekan died in Lagos aged 85, breathing his last at Evercare hospital in Lekki area of Lagos.
• Ex- Vice President Atiku Abubakar suffered a terrible business blow as Pres. Muhammadu Buhari terminated the contract won by Integrated Logistics Services ( Intels) to carry out restoration of the boat pilotage for the Nigerian Ports Authority ( NPA). Intels, which is partly owned by Atiku and an Italian national, Gabriele Volpi, won the contract in Jan. 2021.
• 2020 - Iran
Following admittance of the Iranian government that it shot down the Ukranian plane which crashed, killing 176 people, Iranians have called for immediate resignation of their Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khramenei. There is a lot of anger in Tehran as citizens demand justice and accountability.

The Burj Khalifa, the current tallest building in the world, officially opened in Dubai.
• 2020 - China
COVID- 19 pandemic in Hubei: Municipal health officials in Wuhan announced the first recorded death from COVID- 19.
• 2013 - Somalia
One French soldier and 17 militants were killed in a failed attempt to free a French hostage in Bulo Marer, Somalia.
• 1998 - Algeria
Over 100 people were killed in the Sidi- Hamed massacre in Algeria.
• 1972 - Bangladesh
East Pakistan renamed itself Bangladesh.
• 1964 - USA
Surgeon General of United States, Dr. Luther Terry, published landmark report Smoking and Health: Report of Advisory Committee to the Surgeon General of the United States saying smoking is hazardous to health, sparking national and worldwide anti- smoking efforts.
• 1962 - Peru
