Trade minister seeks stronger ties between public, private sectors

MINISTER of T rade, Industry and Investment­s, Doris UzokaAnite, has urged stronger ties between the public and private sector operators. Speaking at the start of her four- day tour of manufactur­ing industries in the country, which kicked off on Monday, the minister said stronger relations between the two sectors were needed to grow the economy.

The minister visited some industries in Lagos, Ogun and Kano states.

She also said th e tour would include visits to governors of identified states to strengthen the relationsh­ip between the federal and state government. “The aim is to draw attention to the amazing work being done in our manufactur­ing sector and how it affects our daily lives and economy. It is also to show the government’s steadfast backing for key sectors of the economy and our dedication to ongoing cooperatio­n for expansion and advancemen­t,” she said.

She noted that the visit is to also highlight the commitment of employees and manufactur­ing workers that form the core of these businesses, creating superior made- inNigeria products that can confidentl­y compete with foreign goods in the internatio­nal market. The minister said: “This is a significan­t step towards recognisin­g the hard

work and achievemen­ts of this sector. It’s also a call to action for further innovation, quality improvemen­t, and competitiv­eness in the global market. The tour is more than just a collection of stops; it serves as a link between the aspiration­s of the government and the realities of the manufactur­ing industry. It is a recognitio­n of the industry’s contributi­on to innovation.

“Stepping into the illustriou­s Dangote Sugar Refinery was nothing short of aweinspiri­ng. Witnessing firsthand the innovative processes and unwavering dedication to excellence showcased here was truly remarkable. We also visited MRS and BUA, adding to the rich tapestry of experience­s within Nigeria's vibrant manufactur­ing sector. These visits further highlighte­d the diverse excellence and impactful contributi­ons of companies shaping our nation's industrial landscape.

“Exploring leading manufactur­ing companies like the Nigerian Bottling Company, Niger Biscuits Co. Ltd, and Beloxxi Industries Ltd among others, has shed light on the incredible work being done within our country's manufactur­ing sector. I am thrilled and honored to continue this voyage, unveiling the incredible contributi­ons of our manufactur­ing sector to the fabric of our nation.”
