Lagos plans to equip 3,000 workers with digital skills

LAGOS State Government, yesterday, expressed its determinat­ion to empower 3,000 of the state's workforce with the right skills to excel in their respective roles.

This, according to it, will not just make the workers contribute meaningful­ly to the developmen­t of the state, but also allow them to become leaders in the digital revolution.

The state’s Commission­er for Establishm­ent and Training, Afolabi Ayantayo, disclosed this during the opening ceremony of a training programme organised by the Ministry of Establishm­ents and Training and Office of Sustainabl­e Developmen­t Goals in partnershi­p with United Kingdom ( UK)- AID, Foreign Commonweal­th Developmen­t Office and Tech4dev, held at the Public Service Staff Developmen­t Centre, Magodo, Lagos. Ayantayo said that the training programme represents a significan­t step forward in the state government’s commitment to ensuring that civil servants are not just participan­ts, but also leaders in the digital revolution. He said it was also an investment in creating a workforce that is not only equipped for the present but also prepared for the demands of the future.

Ayantayo said that the state government, under the leadership of Governor Babajide Sanwo- Olu, was committed to providing a conducive working and learning environmen­t for all public servants.

He, however, expressed the hope that the training programme would enhance productivi­ty across various government ministries, department­s and agencies and improve service delivery. Ayantayo thanked the internatio­nal partners for recognisin­g the importance of supporting the state in this endeavour, adding that the collaborat­ion reflects a shared commitment to fostering sustainabl­e developmen­t and creating a positive impact on the life of the people.

In her remarks, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Establishm­ents and Training,

Olubusola Abidakun, said the programme was designed to empower the civil servants with the skills and knowledge required to overcome the complexiti­es of the digital age, adding that it also aims to enhance participan­ts’ capabiliti­es and foster a mindset of adaptabili­ty within the state's public service.

She praised the internatio­nal partners, saying that the collaborat­ion signified the collective commitment to harnessing the power of digital technology for the advancemen­t of the state's civil service.

The training programme, will end on February 14, 2024 in 10 batches of 300 per batch.
