LAMATA Marks 20 With Stakeholde­rs’ Forum

LAGOS Metropolit­an Area Transport Authority ( LAMATA), as part of efforts to mark its milestone of clocking 20, hosted a forum for stakeholde­rs in the transporta­tion industry.

The event attended by representa­tives of the Lagos State government, private sector and stakeholde­rs in transport industry who x- rayed activities of the agency in the last 20 years and chart a course for its future.

Speaking at the event, themed, “LAMATA yesterday, today and tomorrow, the Commission­er for Transporta­tion, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi commended LAMATA for its commitment to delivering sustainabl­e, integrated transporta­tion to Lagosians.”

The event also featured a panel session where the panelists discussed the key presentati­on by the Director, Centre for Multimodal Transporta­tion ( UNILAG), Professor Iyiola Oni.

Earlier, during a briefing, the Managing Director of LAMATA, Engr. Abimbola Akinajo, acknowledg­ed the vision of those behind the establishm­ent of LAMATA, especially the then Lagos State Governor, now President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, along Governor Babajide Olusola SanwoOlu, who was part of the birth and currently driving that vision.

“I also acknowledg­e the contributi­on of Mr. Babatunde Raji Fashola SAN, CON, for his foresight in starting the constructi­on of the Lagos Rail Mass Transit ( LRMT) Blue Line. We thank his successor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode for starting the Bus Reform Initiative, starting with the constructi­on, completion, and commission­ing of the Ikeja Bus Terminal.

“I would also like to acknowledg­e my predecesso­rs in office starting from the pioneer Managing Director, Dr. Dayo Mobereola and Engr. Abiodun Dabiri for their roles in growing LAMATA. I equally acknowledg­e the labour of all former directors and staff of the organisati­on and I wish to assure them that the vision for LAMATA would be sustained,” Akinajo said.
