Yusuf hails Tinubu, Shettima for not influencing Supreme Court judgment
Grand reception for gov on return to Kano
KANO State Governor, Abba Yusuf, has lauded President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima as courageous leaders, who resisted significant pressure to influence the Supreme Court’s judgment on the governorship elections.
Yusuf expressed satisfaction with Tinubu and Shettima’s steadfastness in the face of pressure to interfere with the apex court’s ruling, despite strong opposition from various quarters.
Referring to the alleged efforts by some former governors to use the Presidency to sway the court’s decision in favour of the All Progressives Congress ( APC) gubernatorial candidates, the governor highlighted Tinubu and Shettima’s unwavering stance as a testament to Nigeria being in capable hands.
He extended an olive branch to his rival, Nasiru Gawuna, the APC candidate, who lost in the Supreme Court, emphasising the need to focus on building Kano now that the political contest is over. Urging individuals from all political persuasions to unite with his administration to advance Kano, he commended Kano people for their support and resilience, as well as the Supreme Court justices for upholding the integrity of the judiciary.
“As a true democrat and progressive, I call upon my opponents and their supporters to join me in the endeavour to develop our beloved state of Kano for the betterment of its citizens,” said Yusuf. M EANWHILE, supporters of the New Nigeria Peoples Party ( NNPP) and the Kwankwasiyya Movement, yesterday, trooped out in Kaduna State as Yusuf’s convoy passed.
Yusuf, who was one of the four governors that stormed the Supreme Court, in Abuja, last Friday, ahead of the final rulings on the gubernatorial disputes involving them, had chosen not to fly into Kano. The governor had landed in the neighbouring state of Kaduna, from where his convoy drove through crowded roads.
Thousands of supporters and well- wishers were expected to receive the governor at Kwanar Dangora from where they will accompany him to the Government House.
“We have to give them ( the opposition) the same dose or even more that they wanted to serve us. They had planned for this, if they succeeded, but God is in control. The judiciary has done the right thing and justice has prevailed”.
