S’court judgment: It’s too late to accept Allah’s will, Sanusi tells Gawuna

T14th Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi II, has mocked the All Progressives Congress ( APC) governorship candidate, Nasiru Gawuna, for accepting the Supreme Court verdict.

Sanusi, the former Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria ( CBN), told Gawuna that accepting the judgment as the will of God when he ( Gawuna) could not do otherwise is not a sincere commitment to the will of God.

Sanusi said: “A faithful Muslim is expected to accept the fate of whatever befalls him or her at the first instance and not when there is no way out of his condition.”

Gawuna, who lost the legal battle to unseat Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf at the Supreme Court, after he had secured a concurrent victory at the tribunal and Appeal Court, subsequently declared the verdict as the will of God.

In a statement issued on Saturday, Gawuna said, among others: “This judgment is God’s decision, and we accept it.”

But Sanusi said it was funny for the APC candidate to claim to have accepted Allah’s will “after doing all he could to snatch the victory of the poll from the right winners.”

In a four- minute video released on social media, Sanusi, who expressed happiness with the Supreme Court ruling, said he had earlier called on the apex court to do what is justice for the people of Kano.

He said: “We thank Allah and we also congratulate the people of Kano and with the help of Allah, the people of Kano have gotten who they elected. We have always been saying that since we are practising democracy and not dictatorship, it is the right of the people to elect their leaders and representatives.”
