State to install charging stations, prepares for electric vehicles

MANAGING Director, Edo State Investment Promotion Office ( ESIPO), Kelvin Uwaibi, yesterday, canvassed the importance of consistent stakeholders’ engagement, accurate data and technology tools for investment and corporate social responsibility tracking in 2024, saying this year is crucial for Governor Godwin Obaseki’s administration. Uwaibi, who spoke in Benin during a one- day strategy meeting with staff members and top management officials to leverage on emerging opportunities across various sectors, said that 2024 comes with many opportunities, and also with challenges.

According to him, the agency’s proactive stance has instilled confidence, making it a go- to choice for those eyeing investment opportunities in the state.

IN another development, the EDO State government has unveiled plans to install charging stations in strategic locations across the state, as it prepares for the roll out of electric vehicles in the first phase of its clean energy project.

This was disclosed during the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding ( MOU) with Oando Clean Energy Limited for the roll out of clean energy projects, including an electric bus transit service, as well as development of a 175MW wind energy project.

ALSO, the governor, yesterday, sealed a tripartite deal between the state government, the Chinese government, and Yongxing Steel Company, based in Edo State, to boost vocational and technical education in the state.

Before signing the deal at the Government House, Obaseki had a virtual meeting with the partner’s representative, including the Commissioner for Education, Dr Joan Oviawe; Rector of Edo State Polytechnic, Usen, Sylvester Omoruyi; the Chinese Consular General in Lagos, Ms Yan Yu Qing, and the Management of Fuzhou Polytechnic in China, led by Prof. Chen Niandong.

EANWHILE, the state government, yesterday, announced that it is proud to be part of history as a 27 years old Edo born Asein Oseriemen is set to break the Guinness World Record, as she attempts the longest Reading Aloud Marathon ( Read- A- Thon) in the state and Nigeria.

Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Chris Nehikhare, disclosed this during a press briefing, saying the 500- level fishery student from Lagos State University ( LASU) is set to promote the arts and culture of Edo State and Nigeria in the 200 hours ( Read- AThon).
