Police parade 37 suspects over criminal activities in Lagos

Tpolice in Lagos State, yesterday, paraded 37 suspects for engaging in various crimes including armed robbery, stealing, cultism and unlawful possession of firearms.

Commission­er of Police, Fayoade Adegoke, said 16 firearms including a toy pistol, 72 live cartridges, 75 live ammunition, one expended cartridge, one pistol magazine, six axes, four daggers, five cutlasses, two vehicles, a Point of Sale ( POS) machine, fake vehicle registrati­on plates and various charms were recovered from the suspects.

He said 1,050 motorcycle­s were also impounded on prohibited routes during the time under review.

The commission­er assured Lagosians that the command would do everything operationa­lly possible to ensure crime and criminalit­y is reduced to the barest in the state.

Giving details about the suspects, Adegoke said 25year- old Idowu Yunusa was arrested on January 11, at about 9: 30 p. m., as he attempted to rob a passerby around the Igando area.

He said: “A locally made shotgun was recovered from him. The same day, the command arrested 36- year- old Damilola Ontinride, a member of an armed robbery gang, who was seen loitering around the Mile 12 area. One locally fabricated Beretta pistol with live ammunition was recovered from him.

“On January 11, at about 3: 00 p. m., officers of the command arrested Rilwan Kareem, Adejumo Noah, Oluwadade Oluwasegun and Babatunde Raheed, who were stopped and searched based on their suspicious movement within the Aguda area. One locally fabricated double barreled gun was recovered from them.

“We also arrested Toheeb Oyekunle, Victor Jimoh, Samuel Okanlawon, Segun Babatunde, Okeowo Tosin and Mohammed Ibrahim, in connection with an invasion that took place at the IjuIshaga area of the state where the suspects snatched an AK- 47 rifle from a police officer. The suspects confessed to the crime and other criminal activities within Lagos and environs. One cut to size AK- 47 was recovered from them.”
