Ex- Lagos Red Cross Chair , Odugbesan passes on

THE death has occurred of Otunba Anthony Olusegun Odugbesan on Saturday, January 13, 2024 in Lagos, Nigeria.

He was a former DirectorGe­neral, Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports and later , Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Tourism with the Lagos State government under the Sir. Michael Otedola and laterly Col. Olagunsoye Oyinlola administra­tions.

Otunba Odugbesan was an alumnus of St. Finbarrs’ College, Lagos and one of the first sets, from which he earned his secondary school certificat­e. In 1967, he left for further studies in the United States of America and earned a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administra­tion from Upsala College in East Orange, New Jersey in 1971 and an MBA from Rutgers University, New Jersey in 1974.

Otunba Odugbesan was a brilliant scholar who authored many illuminati­ng papers in his profession­al discipline as an educator, including at the University of Lagos, where he was a Member of the University Senate, Head of the Faculty of Business Administra­tion where he taught many of today’s captains of industry. He also held several visiting lecturer positions at home and abroad.

He was a Fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Management and sat on several government­al committees at state and federal level. His passion for humanitari­anism was deep and he contribute­d enormously including as Chairman of the Lagos State Red Cross for many years.

His contributi­ons to the Catholic Archdioces­e in Lagos, Ishiwo and Epe bear testimony to his love for God.

Otunba Odugbesan was married to the late Chief ( Mrs) Felicia Odugbesan, former first female Rector of Yaba College of Technology from 1993 to 2001.

He is survived and will be much missed by his children, grandchild­ren, sisters, brother and many relatives too numerous to mention.
