Woman nabbed for attempting to dump five- month- old baby in river

THE police in Ogun State have arrested a 30- yearold woman, Oluwabunmi Ajayi, who was seen dropping her five- month- old baby, Imole Anifowose, into a river in Sagamu.
The Guardian learnt that the incident occurred on Sunday, January 21, at about 5: 30 p. m.
Spokesperson for the command, SP Omolola Odutola, who confirmed the development, said Olusola Sonaya, an official of the Rapid Response Squad ( RRS), Sagamu, rescued the child.
According to her, the baby, who was rushed to Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital ( OOUTH) for medical attention, is responding to treatment.
“The mother was immediately apprehended and is currently under observation to ascertain her mental health. Efforts have been made to contact her relatives or the husband, to hand over the baby,” Odutola added.
Meanwhile, the command is currently investigating the discovery of an abandoned corpse in the Kadesh area of Ogijo.
The lifeless body of a young male adult, believed to be about 24 years old, was found in an isolated bush on January 21.
According to eyewitnesses, the body was found at about 3: 30 p. m., when a group of concerned citizens noticed a tricycle, locally known as ‘ Keke’ along a route not designated for such vehicles.
Confirming the development, the command’s spokesperson said the witnesses raised an alarm but before they could investigate further, they stumbled upon the lifeless body.
According to her, the culprits responsible managed to escape, leaving no trace behind.
She said: “Upon receiving the report, detectives from the Ogijo Division were dispatched to the scene. They cordoned off the area and promptly evacuated the corpse, which was then transferred to the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital mortuary in Sagamu.
“As of now, the victim’s identity remains unknown as no personal information has been established. Surprisingly, no missing person matching the description has been reported, and no family members have come forward to file a complaint.
“The command has initiated a thorough investigation to identify the culprits behind this brutal act. The police are determined to bring justice to the victim and ensure that such acts of cruelty are prevented in the future.”
Odutola expressed the command’s commitment to eradicating inhumane acts and ensuring safety of the residents of Ogun State.
She urged anyone with information related to the incident to come forward.
