Education minister promises implementa­tion of IPPIS

MINISTER of Education, Prof Tahir Mamman, has said his ministry will carry out the presidenti­al directive on Integrated Personnel Payroll Informatio­n System ( IPPIS) as it affects tertiary institutio­ns in the country.

A statement by the Director, Press and Public Relations of the ministry, Ben Goong, said the minister made the promise in his office in Abuja when he met with the leadership of the Committee of Provosts of Colleges of Education in Nigeria.

According to the statement, the education minister also promised to interface with the committee to ensure industrial peace and harmony in the nation’s colleges of education.

The Committee of Provosts of Colleges of Education is made up of provosts of federal, state and private colleges of education, nationwide.

The Minister of State for

Education, Dr Yusuf Tanko Sununu, acknowledg­ed the positive attitude of the leadership of colleges of education, adding that the ministry will reciprocat­e the gesture to ensure good working relationsh­ip between the ministry and colleges of education.

Sununu called on the leadership of the colleges and stakeholde­rs to close ranks with the ministry to ensure improved enrolment of students into the colleges to guarantee steady supply of qualified teachers at the basic level of the education system.

Speaking earlier, Chairman of the Committee of all Provosts of Colleges of Education Nationwide, Prof Faruk Haruna; and the Chairman of the Committee of Provosts of Federal Colleges of Education, Dr Ali Adamu, appealed to the ministers to facilitate the implementa­tion of the presidenti­al directive to take colleges of education out of the IPPIS.
