- From Ann Godwin, Port Harcourt

FLOOD victims in eight local councils of Rivers State have taken delivery of relief materials from the Niger Delta Development Commission ( NDDC).

The benefitting councils include: Tai, Abua/ Odual, Gokana, Andoni, AhoadaEast, AhoadaWest, Ogba/ Egbema/ Ndoni and Asari- Toru. The Guardian learnt that the gesture was to improve the welfare and living conditions of residents affected by recent floods across the state.

Recall that flood wreaked havoc, displacing several communities between September and November in the state, last year. Rivers State representative in the NDDC board, Tony Okocha, while handing over the materials to representatives of the flood victims said the commission understood the plight of the people, hence its determination to be more responsive.

He assured that the board would continue to project the Renewed Hope agenda of President Bola Tinubu towards improving the welfare of Nigerians.

Addressing the victims, the director of the NDDC state office, Theophilus Allagoa, urged benefitting communities to raise the alarm if they notice the relief materials were not being properly distributed.

Responding on behalf of the victims, the chairman of Ahoada- West Local Council, Hope Ikiriko, expressed gratitude to President Tinubu and the NDDC.

Also, the commission distributed learning and teaching materials to secondary and primary schools across the three senatorial districts of the state.

It announced the purchase of 30 Joint Admission and Matriculation Board ( JAMB) forms and provision of scholarships for top JAMB scorers at Community Secondary School ( CSS), Kaani, and Community Secondary School ( CSS), Rumuapara. It also provided 50 JAMB forms for students of Western Ahoada County High School.
