‘ We're working on legislatio­n on insecurity, state police, integratio­n’

• S’west Speakers advocate multi- level policing, commiserat­e with Makinde over Ibadan explosion • Oyo Assembly to curb incessant attacks, killings in Ogbomoso, other zones

SPEAKERS of the Houses of Assembly in South- West, yesterday, said they were working towards harmonised legislatio­n in the region to tackle security challenges, regional integratio­n, economic developmen­t and others.

Chairman, Conference of Speakers, South- West, and Ekiti State House of Assembly Speaker, Adeoye Aribasoye, disclosed this while speaking with journalist­s shortly after meeting with Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, at the Governor's Office, Secretaria­t, Ibadan.

The Speakers and other lawmakers also called for the removal of policing from the Exclusive Legislativ­e List to the Concurrent List to address security challenges in the region.

They asserted that they were working towards legislatio­n, particular­ly in the areas where the region has common challenges and issues.

Aribasoye said: “Our visit to Oyo State today is part of our visit to all the states in the South- West on the need for us to have regional integratio­n and developmen­t, look at the issues of security, particular­ly in our region, and to call for multi- level policing in Nigeria most importantl­y.

“We have also come to commiserat­e with the governor and the people of Oyo State on that needless explosion that took in Ibadan.” EANWHILE, Oyo State House of Assembly, yesterday, vowed that it would leave no stone unturned in curbing the killing of innocent citizens by Fulani herders in Oriire Local Council and other parts of the state.

The lawmakers unanimousl­y declared this while reacting to a motion sponsored by the member representi­ng Oriire State Constituen­cy, Johnson Ogundele.
