Tinubu upbeat on addressing security challenges

- From Terhemba Daka and John Akubo, Abuja

PRESIDENT Bola Tinubu has restated his administration’s preparedness to support the nation’s security agencies through modernisation of fleets, training and welfare of personnel.

This came as he implored the Nigerian military and other security agencies to intensify efforts at containing the multi- dimensional security challenges in the country.

He spoke during the induction of two TK- 129 ATAK helicopters and a King Air 360i aircraft at Nigeria Air ( NAF) Base, Makurdi.

Represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, he recalled the commissioning and induction of four additional Diamond- 62 surveillance aircraft into the arsenal of the Nigerian Air Force about two months ago, saying it is a symbol of his government’s enduring commitment to the ideals of patriotism and investment in the nation’s security.

His words: “Indeed, our solemn commitment to safeguarding Nigeria’s security hinges upon the realisation that without vigilant attention to the needs of our armed forces, who are saddled with the maintenance of peace, law, order and stability, anarchy and lawlessness would surely prevail.”

BESIDES, the Senate, yesterday, declared that it will interface with service chiefs today and tomorrow over prevailing insecurity.

During an interface between the Senate Committee on Banking, Insurance and other Financial Institutions with CBN Governor that was eventually to Friday, Chairman of the committee, Senator Adetokunbo Abiru, said the planned interface with Olayemi Cardoso was allow for grilling of the service chiefs.

The Senate had, by its resolution on Tuesday last week, summoned the service chiefs to appear before it at plenary for explanations on the worsening security situation in the country, just as its Committee on Banking, summoned the CBN boss to appear before it yesterday on the state of the nation’s economy and free fall of the Naira.
