Nasarawa CP dissociates from Miyetti Allah’s security outfit

- From Abel Abogonye, Lafia

COMMISSIONER of Police ( CP), Nasarawa State Command, Shehu Nadada, has denied any involvement with the 1,440- man Fulani Nomad Vigilante team, which was recently unleashed on the state by the President of Miyetti Allah Kauta Hore, Abdullahi Bodejo.

Nadada disclosed this, yesterday, when members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists ( NUJ) visited him at the command’s headquarters in Lafia.

He pointed out that the command was not officially notified about the formation of the security outfit.

“I am assuring you that the Nomad Vigilante ( members), as they call themselves, are on their own. There was no formal report to the police concerning the issue. Nobody wrote to me or called me ( over the issue).

“We have been working with some vigilante groups that are recognised by the government, but we will not work with any vigilante that is not recognised by the government.”

Some concerned residents in the stat e have alleged the involvement of the police in the formation of the vigilante group, as officers of the command were reportedly represented and provided security during the inauguration ceremony .

But the CP said the police command provided security at the venue of the inauguration ceremony for the 1,144man nomad vigilante members to avert the breakdown of law and order at the event. “Nobody informed the command in written or verbal form about the vigilante group, But ordinarily, if there is any gathering like that, we cannot allow people to gather without providing security for them, so that hoodlums will not go and hijack the gathering,” he said.
