• 2021 - Nigeria

Former Lagos State governor, Lateef Jakande, who died

Feb. 11 aged 91, was buried according to Islamic rites. The pre- burial prayers took place in his house at No. 2 Bishop Str. Ilupeju, Lagos.

• 2020 - Nigeria

Nigerian entertainm­ent and music industry lost a legend in popular highlife trumpeter, Dr Victor Olaiya. This was confirmed by the managing director of the Evergreen Music Company, Bimbo Esho to which Olaiya was signed.

• Some residents of Maiduguri, Borno State capital, booed Pres. Muhammadu Buhari and his entourage during their visit to the state when the President paid a visit to sympathize with the family of those killed when Boko Haram terrorists attacked passengers in Auno, resulting in death of 30 persons while 18 vehicles were burnt. Immediatel­y the president left, Boko Haram terrorists launched another daring attack on Jiddari Polo, a community in Maiduguri.

• 2019 - Macedonia

The country known as the Republic of Macedonia renamed itself the Republic of North Macedonia in accordance with the Prespa agreement, settling a longstandi­ng naming dispute with Greece.

Ex- Secretary to Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, was arraigned before an Abuja Court, for alleged fraud in a grass- cutting scandal a day after he was nabbed by Economic & Financial

Pope Francis and Patriarch Kirill signed an Ecumenical Declaratio­n in the first such meeting between leaders of the Catholic and Russian Orthodox Churches since their split in 1054.

City of San Francisco began issuing marriage licenses to same- sex couples in response to a directive from Mayor Gavin Newsom.

• 2002 - USSR

The trial of Slobodan Milošević, ex- President of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, began at the United Nations Internatio­nal Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia in The Hague, Netherland­s. He died four years later before its conclusion.

United States President Bill Clinton was acquitted by the United States Senate in his impeachmen­t trial.

Christian Dior unveiled a "New Look", helping Paris regain its position as capital of the fashion world.
