- By Zainab Hassan

FAMILY members of the victims of last week’s cooking gas explosion at Olaniyi Bus Stop, Cele Street, Ojokoro, Lagos, have called out to Nigerians to assist them in settling the hospital bill.

The explosion affected four people: 52- year- old Grace John, 61- year- old Enyeribe John, and 20- year- old Miracle John.

The fire also resulted in the death of four- year old Fareedat Shittu, their granddaughter.

Speaking with The Guardian, a member of the family, Oluchi John, disclosed that she narrowly escaped.

According to her, members of the community came to their rescue and tried to assist before the little girl died. She said more help is needed as hospital bills have piled up, while demands for medical tests and drugs have also increased.

Oluchi said she is heartbroken and unable to watch her parents and brother in agony.

“My mother’s condition is getting worse. She’s still in the Intensive Care Unit of the , Lagos State University Teaching Hospital ( LASUTH), while my dad and brother’s conditions are still critical. The doctors are bombarding us with tests. They said my mother can’t use the drugs we just bought for her, and we would have to get new ones. But we don’t have money,” she said. Another member of the family, Elizabeth Richard, disclosed that over N2.8 million has been spent since the incident. Revealing that they need about N8 million for hospital bills, she called on good- hearted people and the government for help.
