ONDO State Police Command has arrested Olubodun Sanni, a 21- yearold final- year student of Adekunle Ajasin University Akungba- Akoko, over the alleged killing of his colleague, a 300- level female student, Ifeoluwa Adekunle.

Ondo State Police Commissioner, Abayomi Oladipo, disclosed that the suspect was nabbed after the phone of the deceased was traced to him.

Ifeoluwa, who was in the Department of Economics, was killed a few days ago at her off- campus hostel.

According to the commissioner, Sanni, who was paraded along with other suspected criminals, stabbed the deceased, who was his neighbour, in the chest.

Oladipo said: “One of the few achievements we want to showcase is the arrest of a murder suspect involved in the killing of a student of AAUA. On February 2, a case of suspected murder was reported to the police. One Adekunle Adebisi Ifeoluwa, ‘ f’, 20, a 300- level student of Adekunle Ajasin University Akungba- Akoko, was found in a pool of blood at her offcampus hostel. She was rushed to the university’s health centre and later referred to a specialist hospital in Ikare Akoko, where she was confirmed dead.

“In the course of the investigation, the police discovered that the deceased’s phone was missing. The police, through the use of modern technology, traced the phone to one Olubodun Sanni, ‘ m’, 21, a final- year student of the same school, who is also a neighbour to the deceased.

“The recovered phone led to further questioning of the suspect, who gave details of what happened in his confessional statement, including how he entered the deceased’s room, stabbed her on the chest with a knife, and stole her iphone XR. The suspect will be charged to court at the end of the investigation.”

Oladipo also spoke on others arrests the command made, saying: “On January 2, 2024, one Umar Ibrahim, ‘ m’, aged 20 years, asked one Mohammadu Adamu, ‘ m’, of Fulani Camp in the Akunnu area to use his father’s motorcycle to drop him at Ogali, via Kogi State. “While on the way, at a bush path, Ibrahim matcheted Adamu to death and went back to Akunnu. The suspect was later arrested by police operatives. The phone of the deceased was also recovered from him. The suspect, in his confessional statement, claimed he killed Adamu when he noticed that he and one Basiru, ‘ m’, had planned to kidnap and kill him.”
