Insecurity: A’ibom CP vows to take battle to criminals’ hideouts

- From Ayoyinka Jegede, Uyo

aTHE new Commissioner of Police in Akwa Ibom State, Waheed Ayilara, has vowed to raid hideouts to fish out all criminal elements and ensure peace in the state.

He also committed to partnering with stakeholders in the state, including journalists, to actualise his goals. Ayilara identified negligence by parents and guardians in the discharge of their roles and drug abuse as major causes of crimes and criminalities.

The CP promised to make the state inhospitable for criminal elements and their collaborators.

He said: “I am using this medium to prevail on all criminals and their collaborators in the state to pack their bags and luggage and relocate from the state. It is not going to be business as usual. We shall take the battle to your hideouts and deny you freedom of action anywhere in the state.”

To achieve success, Ayilara said the command would collaborate with other security agencies and critical stakeholders in the state. He also promised to tackle unprofessionalism among police officers, noting that an “indisciplined officer is a threat, not only to the policing family, but also to the community and the state he serves.”

He appealed to residents to embrace peace and resist any temptation to resort to violence, threat, or misinformation on social media that may threaten the security of the state.

Earlier, the governor, Umo Eno, pledged his administration’s commitment to combating insecurity in the state. He said based on credible intelligence made available to him, some residents within the state were supporting criminals, hence, his administration would stop at nothing to overcome the challenge.
