How I gained freedom from captors, by abducted furniture maker Tobywood

- By Eniola Daniel

ALagos-based furniture maker, Tobiloba Samuel Omoosumi (popularly known as Tobywood), who regained freedom a week after he was abducted in the Ikeja area of the state, has narrated his ordeal.

Tobywood was abducted on Wednesday, February 7, as he went to Computer Village to repair his phone.

One of his friends, Abitayo, told The Guardian that the case was reported at the Ifako Police Division on February 12. Before his release, spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, Benjamin Hundeyin, had confirmed that the case was reported and had requested public help to find the missing person.

The 24-year-old said he left his house last Wednesday, to get items for his work but had decided to fix the charging port of his phone at Computer Village, Ikeja. He said when he boarded a mini-bus (korope) in Oshodi, he noticed that some passengers were already seated within, and that a few minutes afterwards, he realised he was becoming weak.

He said: “I thought I was hungry because I hadn’t eaten all day. That was the last I remembered. When I woke up, I found myself tied up, with my face covered with a cloth. I heard people’s voices around me. I couldn’t tell how many people were there with me because my face was covered.

“I noticed that people were being taken, one by one, out of the room but nobody was being brought back. At this point, I became really scared because I thought this was the end.

“They took me also and I felt the same weakness I felt in the bus. The next thing, I woke up in the middle of nowhere with blood on my clothes and a few cuts on my body. God led me out to a house. I met an old woman. She saw my condition, gave me water to drink and slippers to wear, and showed me the way to the road.

“I didn’t have any idea I had been away for this long because my face was covered throughout the time. I also didn’t have any idea what time it was. I stopped the first person I saw. He helped me and told me I was in Ogun State. He helped me to find my way to Lagos.”
