SIR: Mr. Oliver Vershima, a Roman Catholic Catechist who was arrested with a lifeless body of a lady ( Martha Ugba) alleged to be his lover, narrated his side of the story during a telephone interview with Pius Awunah, for the very first time since the incident.

According to the Catechist, the lady was not even pregnant as alleged in different publications on the incident. Quoting from him directly: “She was not feeling well and came to me to assist her. In response, I took her to Mbahula Healthcare Clinic where she was examined and given drugs to help address her condition.”

Therefore, the situation went high suddenly at night and she passed on. That very night, I called her brother Iorliam Ugba and explained everything to him as he was equally aware of his sister’s ill health. He added.

“The brother came to assist me to take her body to the mortuary but we were arrested by the youth in the area where they alleged that I was going to bury her secretly but it was not so”. The guy who took me and the body was the brother to the lady in question. So, do you think her brother would agree with me to bury his sister in the manner it was alleged? Oliver asked the above question. While responding on a question that seek to know what illness the lady was suffering from, he said a test was supposed to be carried out on Monday to know what was wrong with her but she died on Sunday by 5: 37am.

He also accused media of broadcasting, publishing and circulating lies against him. According to him, their stories against him lack fairness and balance as he was not contacted for his own side of the story to be heard.

He also said, he was on awaiting trial but as the truth came up, the family of the deceased went and withdraw all the charges against him to be set free. Mr. Oliver has admitted having an affair with her but insisted she was not pregnant and she did not die as a result of aborting a pregnancy as alleged in the media.
